Booked a room with air con, but the power has been turned off at 10PM, which rendered the whole air-con thing a bit useless.

Habe ich gewählt weil es die günstigste Verbindung von Bangkok nach Frankfurt über Istanbul mit halbwegs gutem Anschlussflug war (mit Ausnahme von Air India, die wegen Qualitätsmängeln ausscheiden).

Preis: 760 Euro komplett.

Personal:
Sehr unfreundlich. Vom Check-In in Bangkok und Frankfurt, bis hin zu den Flugbegleitern. Alle gestresst, unfreundlich, abweisend. Boarding war jeweils eine Stunde vor Abflug, was ein wenig ungewöhnlich war, aber das Personal war sehr resistent und meinte, ich solle gefälligst eine Stunde vorher am Flieger sein, was wegen der Kontrollen nicht immer einfach ist und oft keinen Sinn macht. Check-in schliesst auch eine Stunde vor Abflug, und da waren sie sehr streng.

Sitze: ich hatte trotz dem Personal auf fast allen Strecken einen Platz in der ersten Reihe erhalten (nett!), von daher ok. Der Flug von Istanbul nach Frankfurt (immerhin 3 Stunden!) irgendwo in der Mitte der Economy Class war so eng wie bei den Billigfligern von Ryanair und AirAsia.

Essen: obwohl sie vor dem Flug mein veget. Essen mehrfach bestätigt haben, war es auf zwei Strecken nicht verfügbar. Es gab Hähnchen bzw. Fisch. Glatt durchgefallen. Der Rest war ok. Leckeres Efes Pils und Gemüse-Lasagne.

Entertainment: individuelle Unterhaltung am Sitz auf der Langstrecke, aber bei mir defekt. Immerhin USB-Ports zum laden auf der Langstrecke, habe ich aber nicht getestet.

Gepäck: nur 20kg für aufgegebenes Gepäck, wobei das nicht so eng gesehen wurde. In Frankfurt musste allerdings das Handgepäck auf die Wage und hat zu einer mittleren Katastrophe geführt (22 Euro pro Kilo Übergepäck-Gebühr bei allem über 8 Kilo).

Stopover in Istanbul: kleiner Flughafen. Burger King und Starbucks sind da, aber teuer (9 Euro für ein Veggie-Menü im Burger King) und Geld kann nur an zwei Wechselbuden gegen Kommission getauscht werden. Flughafen übervoll mit auf dem Boden liegenden Passagieren. Duty Free teuer.

Mitreisende: meist Russen, UkrainEr und Schweden. Etwas nervig, da laut, bedingt durch Alkoholkonsum und mitreisende Babys.

Extras: wenige. Ausser deutsche Zeitungen beim Abflug aus Frankfurt. Und Miles and More, aber nur den halben Meilenwert für die Economy Class.

Persönliches: ich hatte zu viel Handgepäck und sollte es aufgeben (und zahlen). Habe aber vorgezogen, „ein paar Sachen“ zu entfernen und kam damit mit Glück durch alle Kontrollen, auch ohne roten „Approved Cabin Bag“-Sticker.

In Frankfurt Bombenentschärfung vor der Sicherheitsschleuse, von daher war ich erst ein paar Minuten nach Abflug am Flugzeug, aber als letzter (danke an den unfreundlichen Sicherheitskollegen, der meinte: vordrängeln is’ nich – is mir egal, ob dein Flieger in drei Minuten geht!“). Aber: sie haben gewartet. Pluspunkt!

Fazit: wenn sie die günstigste Airline sind, würde ich wieder mit Turkish Airlines fliegen. Ansonsten ziehe ich aber alle anderen Airlines vor, da es dort meist mehr Freigepäck und besseren Service gibt.
Wie Turkish Airlines sich „die beste europäische Airline“ nennen kann, ist mir dennoch schleierhaft.

The hotel is located a 10 mins walk from the busy main road (near Ratchathewi station) or Phaya Thai station (follow the train tracks from Phaya Thai if you do not have too many items of luggage). Needed to guide several taxi drivers there already, because its not a well known place.

Standard room is really standard by any means. Small as a student dorm, small bed, but nothing to miss actually and quite well maintained. I like their simple yet useful design as well.

Wireless free of charge in the whole compound.

Breakfast choices ok, but nothing special.

Friendliness of staff could be better.

Still good value for money.

Internet only available at the restaurant and lobby, not in the room.

Would come back any time, for that price a good value in Bali.

To call the room a „suite“ is a bit overstated. But expect a spacious hotel room with warm design and some extras like a small kitchen.

Wireless internet access is available for free at the whole hotel. A large TV with DVD player is included, and they hand out DVDs for free at the front desk.

Nice, attentive staff which provided a warm welcome and even a free breakfast which was not „part of the deal“ – but never say no to freebies like that

Its amazingly quiet, just a hundred metres back from that busy Soi Asoke.

For this price (39 Euro per night), I would stay there again any time.

Remember to set back your plan to LT0 once you do not need the old one any more – otherwise, at the end of the period, they will automatically renew the selected plan and your sim value will get deeper into minus and in the end it might be cheaper to buy a new SIM rather than topping up and paying for past subscriptions!

Setting-back to LT0 does not work any every case: if subscribed to LT5, you need to change to LTU7, LTU30 or any other limited plan before you can change to LT0 (you will get charged for this of course!)

The hotel received good reviews and the location is good as well – in a (usually) quiet back lane just in bustling Patong beach on Phuket.

However, we encountered a few downsides: although a construction site should be done with the works in October, they still seemed to be in the middle of it. Unnecessary to say that the extreme noise annoyed me during my holiday. I mean, I have this noise ebery day and night at my home country, why I go on holiday then just to be annoyed, angry and wear ear plugs!?

OK, a more severe problem: the „free“ DOWNgrade of the room of the cheapest category without any compensation. Because we have been UPgraded before by the agency (agoda), this DOWNgrade was actually by 2 categories. Staff was a bit rude and not really helpful.

In conclusion I gonna save the time ranting about the room, as even for the cheap category it was ok, but simply not what we expected.

So, avoid this hotel at any cost. If they would prefer to be more customer friendly and have the same flexibilty compensating the customers as they show with their announcements on the web site, it would be ok, since the location is strategically good.

I know there are better options out there on Phuket for even a cheaper price.

The hotel can be only reached by Long Tail Boat, the hotel offers no pick up service from the main pier, so we had to deal with the rip off prices for these boats (1200 Baht for a ride for all people on one boat was the best we could get). On the way back, the hotel offered their own service, either 200 Baht per person or 900 for the whole boat- up to six person. Since we were seven, they increased the price to 1500 Baht, quoting „safety concerns“ because the boat would be overloaded. A rather strange line of argument which of course openly showed their greedyness.

OK, back to the hotel. We stayed at a standard room, which was generally speaking OK, although very simple. The heavy rainshowers of the monsoon made it partially into our room, but luckily it was not that severe. Breakfast was ok, quite a good selection, more than I expected on a remote beach on this island. Wireless Lan was not available, but GPRS through AIS.
Other people of our group got upgraded to the highest and second-highest category, their rooms were really a lot more nice, so should consider that in case I will ever come back (but I don’t think so).
The swimming pool was nicely located close to the beach, but very small. Hard to believe even half of the guests would stack up in there.

The biggest downside was noise, once again. There is a bar which belongs to the resort, entertaining us from breakfast until late at night with the worst of traditional Thai-, Lao-, and dance music. I have no more words on this. Why do they think people chose a deserted, quiet beach!? Just to listen to this rubbish they probably get forced to listen to in their home country!?
The bass was just that pumping that it even annoyed me when I was inside my room, all doors closed of course. Terrible! And no „rest and recreation“ possible.

What made the situation worse was once again the staff, who showed very mediocre efforts. Sometimes overly nice, sometimes they either ignored us or behaved openly rude.

Other minor annoyances: there are not many places to dine on this beach. The resort’s restaurant is ridiculously expensive and serves small portions. Plus the noise. No, not again. Hint: Holiday Inn Resort is also at this beach, they offered a great dinner buffet which was reasonably priced for the huge selection they offered.

After all, I would probably not stay there again.
